A 34-YEAR-OLD woman has died after falling from a bridge over a busy road. The fatal incident happened early evening on Monday, March 11 on the A50 near to Meir. Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident which involved the woman being hit by a car after she had fallen from the bridge.
A spokesman from the force said: “At around 7.15pm on Monday, March 11, police were called to the A50 to reports that a woman had fallen from a bridge over the A50 and had been hit by a car. “Officers attended and sadly the woman was confirmed deceased at the scene.”
A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of a woman who had fallen from a bridge over the A50 in Meir at 6.45pm on Monday.
“An ambulance, a paramedic officer and a BASICS emergency doctor attended.
“Sadly, nothing could be done to save the woman and she was confirmed dead on scene.”
The A50 was closed on Monday evening until 11pm, in both directions between the A520 and the A521 eastbound and the B5029 and the A520 westbound near Blythe Marsh while Police carried out an investigation into the incident.
The police spokesman added: “Formal identification of the deceased has not taken place but we can confirm the woman was 34-years-old and from Stoke-on-Trent.”
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 656 of March 11.
