A dog walker in the Moorlands is calling for fellow pooch owners to not leave filled poo bags laying around the countryside.

Brenda Jackson has contacted the Times & Echo with her concerns about the littering – in particular along the Oakamoor Old Churnet railway track and Dimmingsdale areas.

Brenda said: “As usual the Oakamoor Old Churnet railway track and Dimmingsdale areas are looking absolutely gorgeous at present.

The wood anemones and marsh marigolds have been vibrant and now that the bluebells are all coming out it’s really beautiful.

Here is a photo of Zara on one of the woodland paths by the bluebells – the nice part of our walk this week.

However, here is another photo of the “not so nice side” of our walk – of dog poo bags left by people who should know better.

These were piled on the bridge near to the Ramblers Retreat, just where many people stand and admire the views, birds and flowers – not many yards away from the Ramblers retreat car park bins.

There were others left along the track too. There really is no need for such actions.

Without the right gloves, (bearing in mind still Covid awareness and care being taken) these aren’t things other walkers can just pick up, and really – why should they have to collect others?”

Brenda added: “Talking to one of the Churnet Valley Volunteers, he says the volume of bags being left is always worse after statutory and bank holidays.

He, along with the other volunteers and wardens, will now be the ones who have to go along and remove them, as they do regularly.

Well done and many thanks to all of them for keeping it nice for us all but so sorry they have to do such a job.

All responsible dog walkers despair at seeing these black (and other colours) bags lying around.”
