Cheadle Foodbank is appealing for volunteers to join their volunteer committee.
A spokesman for the foodbank, which is based within the Guild Hall in Tape Street, said: “Could you spare a few hours each week? Would you be interested to help run and shape the future of our Foodbank?
“Roles include: Volunteer co-ordinator, Stock and storage manager, and Treasurer and book-keeper.
“Whilst experience would be useful it’s more important to have enthusiasm and commitment to join a small management team and to be a good team player.
“More details are available by emailing pm@cheadledistrict.foodbank.org.uk.”
Cheadle and District Foodbank is part of the Trussell Trust’s UK-wide foodbank network.
The spokesman said: “We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry.
“That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food to individuals and families in crisis that have been referred to us by local care professionals.
“We rely on the local community for food donations, from cartons of long-life fruit juice to tins of meat or fish, all of which is sorted by our hardworking volunteers.
“Anyone can donate non-perishable food or toiletries to us; and there are lots of other ways people can get involved, ranging from volunteering at a food collection, or helping to fund the work the Foodbank does.”
The spokesman for Cheadle Foodbank also emphasised that they are very much still there for anyone who needs help.
They said: “Although the lockdown is easing, and life is slowly returning to normal for many, we know that this is not the case for everyone. If you are struggling to afford food please do get in touch with us. Call 07902 835158 or message us (on Facebook).”
They added: “We know various things can hold people back from accessing foodbank support but we want you to know that if you’re at a crisis point we are here to help. You can find everything you need to know about how to get a referral, to what’s in a food parcel on our website.”
The Cheadle Foodbank are currently appealing for donations of the following items: long life fruit juice, biscuits, tinned soup, tinned potatoes. Donations can be dropped off in the Cheadle Foodbank trolley situated in Morrisons in Cheadle.
