Uttoxeter councillor set to be leader of borough council

By timesecholife on in All News, Latest News

A UTTOXETER councillor is set to become the leader of a borough council – if the vote goes in his favour at a meeting of the authority this week. The likelihood of councillor Duncan Goodfellow becoming the new leader of East Staffordshire Borough Council comes after he was voted as the new leader of the borough's Conservative Group at the group's recent Annual General Meeting. Mr Goodfellow told the Uttoxeter Echo: “If it manifests that I am voted as leader of ESBC on Friday, then I am looking forward to delivering our manifesto which we have recently been elected upon.

There are lots of things we need to continue. As far as I am concerned it is about the continuation of the good work which former ESBC leader Richard Grosvenor has put in in the past.”

Mr Goodfellow, who is vice-chairman of governors at Windsor Park Middle School in Uttoxeter, had previously been an ESBC councillor on the Tutbury and Outwoods ward since the previous elections in 2015.

He and his wife Katrina, and their three children, lived in Tutbury for ten years before moving to Uttoxeter two years ago.

On May 2, Mr Goodfellow was re-elected on to the borough council, this time on to the Heath Ward with 628 votes; and was also elected, for the first time, on to the Uttoxeter Town Council with 521 votes.

The council vote for the next ESBC leader will take place at the authority’s Full Council Meeting on Friday, May 17.
