Two mums put their best feet forward

Two Moorlands mums are lacing up their running shoes and attempting their first ever 5k run to help two village preschools. Laura Parkin and Gemma Ash, both from Kingsley, are set to run the 5k on November 29 after several weeks of intensive training. And it's all to help Kingsley Kingfishers and Kingfishers of Dilhorne, which have both been hit financially by the coronavirus pandemic as all fundraising had to be stopped.

Two Moorlands mums are lacing up their running shoes and attempting their first ever 5k run to help two village preschools.
Laura Parkin and Gemma Ash, both from Kingsley, are set to run the 5k on November 29 after several weeks of intensive training.
And it’s all to help Kingsley Kingfishers and Kingfishers of Dilhorne, which have both been hit financially by the coronavirus pandemic as all fundraising had to be stopped.
Laura, who is secretary on the preschool committee, said: “Usually we hold lots of fundraisers each year from an open day in the summer to stalls at other events, cake sales and sponsored activities.
Obviously this year none of that has been able to happen, and as a charity, we have lost out. We had a committee meeting over Zoom a couple of weeks ago and were discussing how we could do ‘remote’ fundraising.
In a moment of sheer madness, I said I’d run 5k. Oh, and I volunteered my friend Gemma to do it with me – she had no idea what I’d signed her up for.”
Laura, a mum of one, and Gemma, who has two children, all of whom have attended the Kingsley preschool, have been training hard in all weathers for their run.
They have chosen to carry out their challenge at JCB lake at Rocester, cheered on by family and friends.
Laura added: “We are hoping to raise £250 but if we got more, that would be amazing.

But next time we have a brainstorming session about fundraising, I think I should stick to something a bit less energetic.”
