Kids TV star, singer and artist, Timmy Mallett, has praised a Uttoxeter cyclist who is attempting to circumnavigate Britain for charity.

Steve Munro is cycling anti-clockwise around the British coastline in aid of St Giles Hospice.

At the weekend, while cycling near Bridgewater, Steve was stopped by a fellow cyclist doing the same journey in the opposite direction.

Timmy Mallett, famous for 80s TV shows Wide Awake Club and Wacaday, is also a fine artist and is currently cycling around Britain with his paints.

Timmy said: “I met Steve in a little village near the Quantocks. He was coming towards me and I stopped to greet him.

It was his panniers that gave him away as a fellow long-distance cyclist.

He was an interesting fellow and I’m very impressed that he’s camping – it sounds far too hard and far too difficult for me. I’m very impressed with him.

I gave him a Timmy sticker and said I’d look out for him on the way. I think it’ll be on the Moray Forth, but he thinks we’ll meet again maybe in Edinburgh.

I’m sure we’ll come across each other in a couple of months.

It’s a lovely thing he’s doing and I take my hat off to him. He’s going to be hitting the hardest part of the journey.

I’ve just done 700 miles along the South West coast, which is all hills – and not just any hills, they are brutal, brutal hills. It’s the equivalent of climbing Mount Everest twice.

I think he’s terrific. I watched him pedal away and thought, good on him.”

Following previous long-distance exploits, Timmy is following in the footsteps of artists such as Turner and Constable, by touring Britain with his paints, capturing stunning landscapes and scenes of everyday life.

He is recording his journey on social media and fans of the ‘Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini’ singer can follow on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter and Strava.

Steve said: “Timmy was dressed in very bright cycling gear and had on a very funky pair of aluminium framed glasses.

It was not until we had ‘parted ways’ and continued our respective journeys that I realised who it was that I had just had the pleasure of meeting – bit of a lightbulb moment really.

As regards the moment I met a fellow cyclist doing the same trip as me but in a clockwise direction was a bit surreal really – what were the chances of that actually happening in my ride?”
