TRIBUTES have been paid to a former Cheadle town mayor who died this week.
Gill Ferguson, aged 81, had been battling cancer for several months, but passed away at the Douglas Macmillan Hospice, in Blurton, on Monday.
Mrs Ferguson, who was known as Gill but whose real name was Gladys, was an active member of the Cheadle community for many years and a former member of the town council, Staffordshire Moorlands District Council and Staffordshire County Council.
She was an early member of the Ratepayers Group, which took control of both the town and district council in the early 1990s – a period in which she became town mayor for a year and was also SMDC chairman.
