TRADER CALLS FOR U-TURN ON PARKING PENALTY

A CALL has been made to scrap 'pointless' night-time parking rules in Cheadle. Current regulations state no parking is permitted on the main town centre car park, in Tape Street, after 6pm.

And Staffordshire Moorlands District Council has confirmed motorists who leave their vehicles in the area after that time are risking a fine.
Signage at the car park contains no mention of any potential penalty and the regulation is not enforced.
But the parking order does exist on the council’s website and was this week confirmed by a spokesman.
Now, civic leaders in the town are being urged to press for the rule to be over-turned.
Market trader Dave Sargeant said: “This is a regulation that’s out of the dark ages and it’s not fit for purpose.
