Town set for traffic chaos?

By timesecholife on in All News, Latest News

THE closure of FOUR busy main roads could spark traffic chaos in the Cheadle area next month.

Staffordshire County Council has scheduled improvement projects on key routes in and around the town.

Work to repair potholes will lead to the temporary closure of Tean Road, Oakamoor Road and Cheadle Road, along with Uttoxeter Road in Tean.

And all four of the projects could be carried out during the same week – sparking fears that the town centre, already struggling to cope with heavy rush-hour traffic, will become gridlocked.

Highways officials announced plans for temporary road closures for premium surface dressing last week.

They have scheduled seven-day closures, but insist that is merely a practical measure as work depends on the weather and could take only one day to complete.

The road closure at Oakamoor Road, from the entrance of Hales Hall caravan park to the junction of Tape Street near the Alton Castle pub, is scheduled from Thursday, June 14 to Thursday, 21.

Tean Road is expected to be closed from the Mill Road junction at the Bird in Hand pub to the junction of Eaves Lane, near Lime Trees vets, from Friday, June 15 to Friday, 22.

  • Why can’t they schedule the closures for when the kids are off school at the end of May beginning of June? Surely it would make more sense as there won’t be any school traffic.....?
