A pie maker in East Staffordshire has been highly commended for his baking skills at a national awards ceremony.
Simon Wilson who runs the Pie Shak at High Ash Farm in Abbots Bromley was recently invited to attend the British Pie Awards which took place in Melton Mowbray.
Simon opened The Pie Shak a couple of years ago when he changed the name of his Wilson’s Butchers and also relocated the business.
He was awarded ‘Highly Commended’ in the Pork Pie Category at the national awards.
Simon, who runs the Pie Shak with his wife Helen, told the Echo: “We have only been running the Pie Shak a couple of years. We had a more regular butcher shop before that, but then changed location and focused on pies, although we do still offer various meats such as sausages, bacon, mince, lamb, pork etc.
“We offer a range of pies, from ones with black pudding, stilton and other variations – but it’s our traditional pork pie which was highly commended.
“We are absolutely thrilled with this recognition.”
Simon, who has already won some regional awards for his produce, added: “It was a fantastic afternoon and we were truly honoured to have been considered for such an award alongside some tough competition.”
