Two public houses in East Staffordshire have received top awards for the area.
The Uttoxeter & District branch of Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) presented their Pub of the Year awards recently.
The Night Inn, Uttoxeter won the top award, while The Shrewsbury Arms in Kingstone was runner up.
A spokesman for Uttoxeter & District CAMRA said: “It has been quite some time since Uttoxeter and District CAMRA were able to award the coveted Pub of the Year and a lot has happened since 2020.
“This year we are delighted to present the Night Inn, Uttoxeter with this award and to recognise the Shrewsbury Arms, Kingstone as the runner up.
“The Night Inn will now go forward into the regional finals where, if selected against some very good pubs in the West Midlands, it will then be in the National Finals for the overall CAMRA Pub of the Year.
“Our award winners are chosen against some very good pubs in the area bounded by Tean, Alton, Denstone, Rocester, Doveridge, Marchington and Kingstone and the Blythe.
“These pubs were nominated not only by the local members of CAMRA for the quality of the beer, surroundings, and community support for their area, but also by those who frequent them.
“It was a hard contest and while many others could easily have been a winner, only one can truly come out on top.
“Those that know them will agree that they are very different establishments, but both offer an excellent place to go to meet friends and socialise. Something that most people will have missed during the last two years.”
They continued: “One of the ways that we judge the quality of the pubs is from the beer scores that CAMRA members enter into Whatpub.com.
“Members will rate the beer, not on whether they like that particular brand, but on the quality with which it is served. CAMRA members are encouraged to enter the scores, not only so that the pubs that serve the best beer can be recognised but also to show which are popular with the members.
“The What Pub database is a comprehensive listing of all the pubs, clubs, and restaurants in the country. It is maintained by CAMRA volunteers, so the information is presented in an unbiased way with no paid preferences.”
The spokesman added: “Overall, despite the lockdown and the difficulties caused to pubs, Uttoxeter and District CAMRA have been fortunate to see nearly all reopen.
“There have of course been many changes. Several pubs are now under new management with the original landlords moving on and new people taking their place and even the Bramshall Inn reverting to its former name as the Butchers Arms.
“But I am pleased to see that they are open, and we would encourage you to visit your local and drink in a social and responsible way that only the local pub environment offers.
“With current energy prices come the autumn it may be cheaper than putting the heating on.”
