POLICE FEAR ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR COULD SPIRAL OUT OF CONTROL

POLICE fear anti-social behaviour could spiral out of control over Christmas if parents fail to take their teenage children to task.
Under-pressure officers imposed dispersal orders in Cheadle last month in a bid to crackdown on yobs behind a spate of issues in the town centre.
But they say trouble has increased again, culminating in a shocking incident last week in which a woman in a wheelchair was set upon by yobs during the Christmas lights switch-on.
Members of the Moorlands Local Policing Team are worried the crime spree could increase still further over the festive period and are calling for parents to step in.
Community Support Officer Alison Nowicki said: “We’ve seen another significant increase in anti-social behaviour in Cheadle over the last six weeks.
“The problems are being caused by the same gang of teenagers and we really want to get a grip on it as soon as we can.
“We know who the worst offenders are, and some of them are girls, but it’s difficult to find actual evidence.
“The trouble is that we’re not getting enough back-up from parents and we need to get them onside.
“Some want to help us and will do what they can when they find out their child has been involved in something like this.
“But there are others who don’t seem bothered or at least don’t do anything about it.
