TAXPAYERS are being asked to help fund a major redevelopment project at a museum in Uttoxeter.
Town councillors have agreed a small increase in the annual precept – the amount it charges residents as part of their Council Tax.
And most of the money raised will be used to pay for improvement work at Redfern’s Cottage Museum of Uttoxeter Life, which is due to re-open later this year.
The town’s heritage centre needs an extra £8,934 to attract enough matched funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to complete the key restoration project.
Improvement work is designed to deliver an enhanced experience for visitors along with a cafe and better access.
The Uttoxeter Heritage Trust oversees the running of the cottage, which is owned by the town council.
And, having used a previous grant to double engagement with the community, it’s now supervising the second phase of the project to restore the 17th century building.
