Concern has been raised over the production of a ‘Gift Guide’ for the Staffordshire Moorlands. Last week, we revealed that Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) had spent £17,000 on a ‘Gift Guide’ for the district – using some of its share of the Government’s ‘Welcome Back’ fund.

A council has used some of its share of the Government’s ‘Welcome Back to the High Street’ funding to produce gift guides. Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) has stated that it is “doing its bit to support shoppers, local businesses and markets – as well as reminding people to stay Covid safe.”

Community leaders have been considering the impact of the closure of a Moorlands high street while a Halloween event is held. Cheadle Town Council is set to host a night of spooks and entertainment on October 30 using money received from the government’s ‘Welcome Back Fund’ which aims to bring footfall back into high streets.

Community leaders were given just five days to come up with proposals on how to spend Government cash to “support a safe return to the high street.” A letter regarding the Government’s ‘Welcome Back’ fund was sent by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) to the Cheadle Town Mayor and fellow members of the Cheadle town Council on Thursday (May 20).

The Government is set to hand out cash to be used in the three Moorlands town, including Cheadle, to ‘welcome back’ customers to its high streets. Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) is set to receive £87,090 of the funding which is aimed at “helping local high streets reopen and attract shoppers and tourists."
