More than £8,500 has been donated from cash raised at a royal themed celebration in East Staffordshire. A total of £8,552 was raised at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebration which was held at Uttoxeter Racecourse last month.

The owner of a tearooms in a Moorlands town has laid on a ‘thank you’ event for those who have helped keep a charity shop going for 20 years. Paul Pickford, who runs the Victorian Tearooms in Cheadle, invited staff and volunteers – past and present – from the Cheadle Cancer Research UK shop to a special event on Monday (July 11).

A popular heritage railway in the Moorlands is appealing for additional volunteers to help keep the tourist spot going. The call has been made by the team at Churnet Valley Railway, which has stations at Kingsley & Froghall as well as at Cheddleton.

The results are in from a consultation which focused on the future of a Moorlands town. Cheadle stakeholder subgroup, an unpaid volunteer group of residents supported by Team Cheadle, was tasked by Cheadle Town Stakeholder Panel with obtaining the views of residents and the community on the potential town centre development projects.

A RESCUE centre for dogs in the Moorlands is appealing for support amid the current coronavirus situation. Due to the current Government lockdown restrictions, just three staff are working hard around the clock at the Luosko German Shepherd Dog Rescue in Cheadle to look after 40 dogs as no rehoming can take place, nor can any volunteers be allowed to help out at the centre. Rescue Coordinator and Senior K9 Technician at Luosko, Stuart Harvey, told the Times & Echo: “Unfortunately we have had to cancel all ‘in person’ events for the foreseeable future, which in turn means no income, no volunteers, no adoptions and no intake, unless extremely urgent ie police or RSPCA involvement.

A LIBRARY in the Staffordshire Moorlands has begun a new era after volunteers took over stewardship of the venue this week. Staffordshire County Council announced last year that it would transfer the library over to a voluntary group, a scheme which has been happening at a number of libraries across the county, including the one in Werrington. A group of library-lovers clubbed together in November 2018 and formed Cheadle Community Library Group to launch a bid to take over the reins of Cheadle Library, amid fears the venue could close.

A DOG rescue, which is dedicated to re-homing German Shepherds, has relocated to the Moorlands. Luosko German Shepherd Dog Rescue has relocated from a site in Barlaston, near Stone to the former Cheadle site of Monty's Rescue – a charity which closed it's doors earlier this year. The site at Haden House Farm in Delphouse Road is currently having a refurbishment and the volunteers at Luosko are on the look out for additional volunteers to help look after the 20 dogs they currently have in their care. A CHARITY which provides vital services for elderly people across the Moorlands has made a public plea for clarity over funding. Moorlands Home Link, based in Cheadle, has warned a lack of foresight during the transition to a new model of care is putting its future in jeopardy. The charity has raised concerns that changes in the NHS are having an impact on the funding it receives from the North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs).

WILLING volunteers have stepped forward to help save a cherished village fayre. St Margaret's Summer Fayre, Draycott was under threat after a 'perfect storm' of problems last year put this year's event in jeopardy. An appeal for volunteers resulted in a handful of new helpers, although organisers are hoping more people will step up.

A GROUP of volunteers are set to submit a bid to take over the management of Cheadle Library. The new Cheadle Community Library group, consisting of volunteers, will put together an application to run the facility with support from Staffordshire County Council. Cheadle is one of four libraries in Staffordshire to join 20 others under the community management scheme, which aims to reduce costs to tax-payers while retaining library services.
