JUST days remain for townsfolk to comment on a three-year plan to encourage biodiversity and wildlife in Uttoxeter. Uttoxeter Nature Recovery Network’s action plan is set to be ratified in October – after residents in the town have had their say.

A CONSULTATION on plans to make Uttoxeter a greener, ‘wildlife friendly’ place has been launched by the town’s council. The consultation, which is open to residents and organisations in Uttoxeter, follows the creation of the new Uttoxeter Nature Recovery Network (UNRN). The network aims to work with developers and landowners to balance the loss of habitat and the impact of climate change.

A COMMUNITY leader is hoping to 'champion' mental health within her community after raising awareness of the 'hidden' illness to fellow councillors. Cheadle Town councillor Elizabeth Whitehouse invited Stoke-on-Trent city councillor Lilian Dodd to a recent meeting of Cheadle Town Council where cllr Dodd spoke of her role in taking up the 'Mental Health Challenge' at the city council. In her presentation she said: “I have been a Mental Health Champion for the city since 2018.

TRAFFIC controls on a main road adjacent to a major new housing development need a rethink according to Uttoxeter Town Council. Current planning permission granted for 429 homes on land at Hazelwalls includes highways provision for traffic lights in Stafford Road. However, temporary lights in a similar location for works on a separate housing site caused two-mile long queues.

A TOWN council has declared a climate emergency with councillors agreeing that more needs to be done to quell the impact of climate change. Uttoxeter Town Council will also consider 20 'actions', provided by environmental organisation Friends Of The Earth for parish and town councils, when discussing decisions in it's different committees. These actions are split into three sections; 'Be a force for good', 'Demonstrate leadership through your own practical actions' and 'Use your powers wisely.'

A TOWN council is set to consider the possibility of commissioning a charity transport organisation to bring extra bus services to the area. The move comes after a presentation by Pat Laughlin from Ashbourne Community Transport to Cheadle Town Council at it's meeting on Monday, October 21. Ms Laughlin, who is a director and the chairman of the board of trustees of the transport charity, explained that the organisation operates commercial services to be able to offer charitable transport in Derbyshire.

CONTROVERSIAL plans to build 300 new homes on land off Froghall Road have divided the new Cheadle Town Council. At a meeting on Monday, new members pushed for a fresh vote on a hybrid application by Persimmon Homes for 300 homes and a new school. Cheadle Town Council had lodged objections to the proposals in May after a debate on the application, but the plans returned for further consideration following the inclusion of a new report on accessible housing.
