Go-karts stolen from a secure lockup in Cheadle have been recovered thanks to a social media campaign. CCTV shared by home and business owners helped track the thieves, who drove the karts from Cheadle to Longton.

Council is updated on crime figures

Anti-social behaviour is on the decrease in a Moorlands town but rape is on the increase – according to a Police report presented to community leaders last week. Although no representative from Staffordshire Police was able to attend last week’s monthly Leek Town Council meeting, a report was sent in from the force and circulated to councillors ahead of the meeting which took place on Tuesday, January 18.

Fly-tipped rubbish was cannabis waste

Police have confirmed that a large pile of rubbish bags which were dumped in the Moorlands recently included the remains of a cannabis growing operation. Last week we ran a report about and a photo of the offending fly-tipped rubbish which had been found on the grass verge next to a road in Winnothdale between Freehay and Great Gate, near Cheadle last week.

Staffordshire Police are currently investigating the cause of a fire that broke out on Tape Street in Cheadle at the weekend. Staffordshire Fire & Rescue crews were called out to extinguish the blaze, which occurred near Iceland food store just after 9pm on Sunday (December 6).

Part of former pub collapses into road

A main road through a Moorlands village was closed for some time this week after part of a former public house collapsed with debris falling into the road. Fortunately no one was hurt when part of the former Blacks Head pub in Tean collapsed on Monday (September 6) lunchtime. The whole building has since been taken down due to health and safety concern.
