We have some fabulous local tourist spots here in the Staffordshire Moorlands – one of which is the Peak Wildlife Park. Situated at Winkhill, the park is home to a multitude of animals – from otters, lemurs, sheep, goats, rabbits, penguins,meerkats, wallabies, pigs, red squirrels, zebras and much more, including a giant African tortoise.

A community advice service has aided its clients in writing off £148,466 worth of debt in 2020/21, as well as helping in other monetary areas too. Cheadle Citizen’s Advice Bureau (CAB) were forced to switch to an entirely digital service overnight in the wake of the pandemic.

Visitors at scenic spots in the Moorlands have been issued with fines surrounding breaking the current Covid-19 rules. It is understood that the £200 fines were issued at a number of scenic Moorlands spots on Saturday (January 9) including in Alton and Froghall.

A council is having to use more than £1,000 in tax payers money to repair and clean up a public toilet facility after a fire broke out at the premises. The incident happened at the public toilets on New Road in Upper Tean on Saturday, August 29.

Bosses at a heritage railway are appealing for people not to trespass on their land. The appeal has been made by the managing director of Churnet Valley Railway, Gregory Wilson, following a number of incidents resulting in vandalism at the popular tourist spot.

A temporary free parking initiative is set to be introduced across the Moorlands next month. A 'Free for Three Hours' initiative is set to run on all Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) managed car parks in the three Moorlands towns of Cheadle, Biddulph, and Leek through the month of August.

A village hairdressers has pulled out all the stops to be able to offer their services to customers once again. Alike to so many hair salons across the country, The Old Stables Hairdressing Salon in Alton re-opened its doors to clients on Saturday (July 4). However, the team at the family run business have gone above and beyond by, not only re-opening their actual salon, but also setting up a temporary outdoor salon for people who may not feel comfortable about going into the indoor salon – with the current coronavirus situation.

A para-athlete from the Staffordshire Moorlands is covering 100 miles across the month of July to raise funds for the NHS as it continues to battle the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. Tennis player and shot-putter Gavin Yarwood is aiming to raise £1,000 for the service that has aided him during his lifetime.
