No bi-election for vacant councillor positions

Last week we reported that Cheadle Town Council had agreed to defer advertising for the co-option of two casual vacancies which have become available on their council. One position in Cheadle North East Ward became vacant following the passing of councillor Ian Whitehouse, who sadly passed away on November 30; while the vacancy in the Cheadle South East Ward became available when former councillor Peter Elkin decided to step down to retire in December.

Parking review for district

Residents and businesses are being asked to share their views on parking across the Staffordshire Moorlands. The invitation for views to be expressed has been made by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) as the authority, which has responsibility for many car parks across the district including a number in Cheadle, is currently reviewing its parking strategy.

Request for meetings to be made public

A town council has agreed to request that meetings surrounding the future of their town are made public. The Cheadle Town Centre Projects Stakeholder Panel met for the first time last Monday (January 25) to discuss the way forward regarding consulting about the future development of the Moorlands town.

Community leaders are set to hear an update about policing across the Moorlands over the past 12 months. Staffordshire Moorlands District Council's Community Overview & Scrutiny Panel, which will next be meeting on Monday (February 1), is set to be presented with an update from the area’s Neighbourhood Policing Team Commander.

Call-in on disabled facilities funding for leisure centre

A council decision to go ahead and spend £25,000 on improving disabled facilities at a Moorlands leisure centre has been ‘called-in’ by community leaders. Earlier this month Staffordshire Moorlands District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Communities, councillor Mike Bowen, approved – through a ‘delegated decision’ - a proposal to spend £25,000 to help provide a special facility to allow disabled users to access and use the facilities at South Moorlands Leisure Centre in Cheadle.

Almost £60k cost of report confirmed

A council has confirmed that it cost almost £60,000 for the production of an 'options' report surrounding controversial proposals for a Moorlands town. Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) has confirmed that Cushman & Wakefield consultants were paid a total of £59,718 in tax payers' money to come up with a report, which is yet to be made public, surrounding options for the regeneration of Cheadle town centre.

Family pleas to council to empty bins

A Moorlands family are appealing to a council to empty their two blue top bins. Anthony Lewis and his family, who live in Froghall Road in Cheadle, say they are having to take some of their waste to the local tip as not all of it is being collected by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council.
