Honorary plaque for former firefighter

An ex-firefighter has been given an honorary plaque and badge from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue service upon turning 90 last week. Jack Allen was presented with a special certificate, card and veteran’s badge on his birthday last Tuesday (January 11) by Chief Fire Officer Rob Barber at Jack’s home in Cheadle.

Gas fire on railway track

A PASSENGER train at a heritage railway had to be reversed back to a station after a fire on the track was discovered. The incident happened along the Churnet Valley Railway track, three quarters of a mile away from it's Froghall Station, at around 2.30pm on Wednesday, June 5. A gas main pipe had ruptured under the track and gas had risen to the surface which was ignited by a spark from a train passing over it – state Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service.
