The duty manager of South Moorlands Leisure Centre in Cheadle has raised nearly £2,000 for charity after completing a gruelling three-day challenge. Shelley Barrett, who is also a Crossfit coach at Crossfit Napalm, took on the fantastic feat in memory of her sister Tammy Fowell who sadly passed away from cancer.

A stakeholder panel, which has been set up to consult about the future of a Moorlands town, has been hearing updates from consultancy firms who have, or are set to, carry out the public consultations. The Cheadle Town Centre Project Stakeholder Panel met virtually on Monday (May 10) with their meeting being made public for the first time.

Town councillors have unanimously voted to save the area’s hospital building. Cheadle Hospital is an ‘option’ for demolition in the ongoing Cheadle Town Centre Projects (CTCP) which is set to be carried out by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC).

A council is set to invest more than £25,000 in helping to provide a special facility to allow disabled users to access and use leisure facilities in the Moorlands. The funds for the facilities at the South Moorlands Leisure Centre in Cheadle, if approved, are set to come from a Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) pot of cash named as discretionary Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG).

A leisure centre administrator who qualified for Team GB has been left in limbo after the event she was due to compete at was cancelled. Julie Hulbert was due to take part in the Middle Distance Triathlon Age Group Team European Championship at Walchsee, Austria in June.

A MOORLANDS woman is pulling out all the stops to raise further funds in memory of her late mum. Kathleen Dyas, who lived in Blythe Bridge, passed away in August 2016 at the age of 66. Her daughter, Liberty-Skye Dyas, has since been fund-raising in her mum's memory and has raised thousands for charity by hosting dog shows – both online and at venues.

A COUNCIL is considering decreasing the size of a Moorlands town's swimming pool – after a review has been carried out focusing on it's leisure centres across the district. In a report conducted by a consultancy on behalf of Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) it has been suggested to make a “smaller community pool and fitness offer” for the leisure services which the authority provides at South Moorlands Leisure Centre (SMLC) in Cheadle. The authority appointed FGM Consulting Limited in 2017 to review its leisure centre provision and sports facility needs, focusing on sports halls, swimming pools and other indoor provision.
