SHOPS across the Uttoxeter area – and England – will be allowed to reopen today (Wednesday, December 2) as the second Covid-19 lockdown comes to an end.

SHOPS classed as ‘non-essential’ are re-opening in Uttoxeter’s town centre for the first time since March. Many retailers closed when the UK Government ordered a lockdown in a bid to combat the coronavirus pandemic. But further easing announced last month came into force on Monday, with many high street shops opening for the first time in 12 weeks.

A LANDSLIDE which happened in a Moorlands town centre at the weekend resulted in a number of shops closing this week. The incident, believed to have been caused by the heavy rain of late, happened at the back of a number of shops in Cheadle's High Street in the early hours of Sunday (September 29) morning. Part of a retaining wall, along with part of what is believed to be a private driveway from St George's Street, came crashing down into the back of some of the High Street properties.

AN EAST Staffordshire town now has it's first ever eco-shop. The Uttoxeter shop is the latest offering at Globe’s Eco Centre in Bramshall Road, which is located on the same site as the Strawberry Garden Centre. The eco shop opened it's doors to the public today (Wednesday, April 3) and hosts a variety of sustainable home and personal care products.

A SCHEME designed to boost independent traders and breathe new life into the high street has been reignited in Cheadle. Businesses in the town centre have joined forces via social media to promote each other online. And, using the Totally Locally Cheadle banner, the traders are hoping to encourage people from far and wide to visit the unique independent shops which make up the majority of the town centre.

A NUMBER of businesses in Cheadle high street are either closing or relocating. New beginnings, expansion, and moving trading to the world wide web are among the reasons for a number of businesses in Cheadle which are either closing or relocating from High Street. Sue Tighe, the owner of Crafty Urchins at 76 High Street, has decided to soon call it a day on her shop in Cheadle's High Street.
