Youngsters at a number of schools, nurseries and care homes in and around Cheadle are set to get green-fingered thanks to a supermarket. Morrisons in Cheadle have taken part in the national store’s ‘Seeds of Hope’ initiative.

Nine schools in the Moorlands have taken up an offer from a Rotary Club to plant three trees to remember the dark times of the pandemic. The trees, which have been donated by Leek Rotary Club, are a Beech, a Mountain Ash and a Silver Birch, and each are about two metres high and have been supplied with a sturdy stake and fertiliser.

But as global demand is on the rise, some a struggling to get hold of masks, visors and other equipment such as disposable aprons and gloves.

SCHOOLS in Cheadle and Uttoxeter are among the top five in the county according to latest figures. Painsley Catholic College, Cheadle and Thomas Alleynes High School in Uttoxeter were placed third and fourth respectively in the Staffordshire league tables for secondary schools. Moorside High School at Cellarhead was ranked sixth, with The Cheadle Academy in 14th place.

A FOUR-year-old had to be taken to hospital after a car mounted the pavement outside a school and knocked him over. Henry Kent was walking with his grandad and older siblings when the incident happened in Royal Walk, Cheadle, on Monday. The youngster was taken to A&E where medics confirmed he was uninjured, although he was in a state of shock after the collision.
