An animal charity is appealing for dog owners to keep their four-legged friends on leads when out walking near any livestock. The RSPCA is appealing for dog owners to keep their pets on leads while walking near livestock after the death of four sheep from the same flock in recent months.

Petition for charity to take on rescue centre volunteers

A petition has been started by a Moorlands dog rescuer who feels that a national animal charity could benefit from more volunteers – in particular from local rescue centres. Adam Harvey, who runs Luosko German Shepherd Dog Rescue in Cheadle, has started the petition which is calling for rescue centre volunteers to be able to deputise for RSPCA officers in their absence.

Several rescue centres from across the Moorlands have pulled together to help 11 dogs in need. Police were called to an address in Cheadle last Wednesday (July 21) following reports of concern for the safety of an adult who was then taken to hospital.
