A Moorlands branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) is aiming to honour the organisation’s century milestone, as well as re-immerse itself in the community next year, after a hard 2021. Many of the Cheadle RBL branch’s events had to be cancelled this year due to Covid restrictions, including the celebrations for its 100-year anniversary.

Concerns have been raised about the cost of a council organising Remembrance commemorations – even though the council has been organising the events for years. Leek Town Council had a long debate about the costs of them organising the Remembrance Sunday event at their November meeting. This after the council has been organising such events for years with the support of the Leek branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL).

A Moorlands branch of the Royal British Legion is celebrating its 100th anniversary this week. Members of the Leek RBL invited people to join them at a special service which took place today (Thursday, November 25).

The Royal British Legion is celebrating 100 years of providing support to the armed forces community this year. And a father and son duo from the Moorlands were amongst those who were invited to take part in the national celebrations last week, which were held at Westminster Abbey in London.

A commemorative plaque has been reinstated in a town centre – after a long battle by the community to get it put back in place. Uttoxeter Town Council and The Royal British Legion revealed on Monday that the town’s Area of Reflection has finally been granted permission by Staffordshire County Council (SCC).

A Moorlands couple have been going above and beyond to raise money for charities during lockdown. Alan and Anita Fowell, who live in Werrington, have been getting creative during lockdown in making themed wooden decorations which they have gone on to sell with all proceeds going to charity.

TOWNSFOLK gathered at Uttoxeter’s War Memorial to mark the 75th anniversary of Victory in Japan. August 15, 1945 was the historic day on which World War II – the deadliest conflict in history – saw the fighting cease.

STREET and supermarket collections for the Poppy Appeal will not take place in Uttoxeter this year. The coronavirus pandemic poses too much of a risk to volunteers for the annual appeal – many of whom are over 70. A question mark remains over Remembrance Services and how they will take place in November.

A YOUNG musician and a standard bearer from the Royal British Legion conducted an impromptu Act of Remembrance to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day. Staffordshire County Council member, David Brookes, praised the pair after he spotted them at Uttoxeter’s War Memorial on Friday.
