Second phase of road closure works ahead of schedule

HOUSING developers whose contractors are working on constructions which have partially closed a busy dual carriageway say one of its three development stages is due to be completed earlier than expected. The A521 in Blythe Bridge is currently partly shut as three phases of works on land adjacent to the road are being carried out as contractors complete development work on behalf of St Modwen Homes, who were previously granted planning permission to build up to 120 new homes on the site. St Modwen Homes confirmed to the Times and Echo that ‘Phase Two’ was set to finish Tuesday, January 21, six days earlier than previously scheduled.

Alterations made to carriageway road closure schedule

FURTHER alterations have been made to the schedule of works that are currently being carried out on a frequently-used double carriageway in the Moorlands. The A521 in Blythe Bridge is currently partly shut as three phases of works on land adjacent to the road are completed by contractors from housing developers St Modwen Homes after previously being granted planning permission to build up to 120 new homes on the site. Earlier this month the Times and Echo reported that Staffordshire County Council's website explained that 'Phase Two' of the roadworks would see the “complete closure of the opposite side of the carriageway for seven weeks with two lanes open eastbound i.e. traffic leaving the A50,” while phase three signified “four weeks with three-way traffic signals and lane closures.”

High street closure for festivities

A TEMPORARY road closure is set to take place in a Moorlands town centre in order for a festive extravaganza to take place. Team Cheadle have announced that there will be one major change to this year’s Cheadle Christmas Lights event, which will take place on Saturday, November 16. For the first time ever, the whole High Street in Cheadle will be closed to traffic. A spokesman for Team Cheadle said: “Usually only the stretch of High Street, beyond the Market Cross is closed off, which often leads to retailers complaining of the “great wall of Cheadle” as they’ve previously nicknamed it – they have felt in the past a line was drawn dividing the High Street, stopping event attendees visiting their shops.

HIGHWAYS crews are to work six days a week to deliver a major new housing scheme in Blythe Bridge “as quickly as possible.” St Modwen has been granted planning permission to build almost 120 new homes within the Moorlands village and states that it needs to construct a site entrance, change the existing road lay out and install utilities as part of the scheme. A new pedestrian crossing, which is set to help people cross the road safely, will also be included in the works, along with new pavements on both sides of the road.

Busy road closure halted amid public backlash

PLANS to close a busy road in a Moorlands town for ten weeks have been put on hold after the scheduling provoked uproar with residents, community leaders and commuters. The A521 highway which runs from Froghall to Blythe Bridge before joining up to the A50 is a road that is used daily by thousands of commuters every day and plans were put in place to completely shut the dual carriageway both ways for several months so housing development works could be carried out. However, following a backlash from members of the community and councillors, the works have been suspended with no confirmation as to when they will officially commence.
