Those of us of a certain age will remember fondly the manic stunts of Michael Crawford as Frank Spencer in the TV show Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em, alongside Michelle Dotrice as his long suffering wife Betty. “Oohh Betty” became the catchphrase all the impressionists of the day used when portraying the accident prone Spencer, though bizarrely the phrase was only ever used once throughout the series which ran from 1973 to 1978.

Theatre goers to the Regent in Hanley for the opening night of Bat Out of Hell on Tuesday (April 26), featuring Jim Steinman’s and Meatloaf’s hits, were greeted to the amazing sight of 44 Harleys riding in and parking in Piccadilly outside the theatre from 6.30pm. This was to celebrate both Bat Out of Hell’s opening night in Stoke-on-Trent and the 10th Anniversary of the Stoke Chapter of the Harley Owners Group.

The Osmonds Musical written by Jay Osmond received a rapturous reception at the Regent on opening night (Tuesday, April 5). The sparkling production follows the stratospheric success of The Osmonds under the stern hand of their Father George, played by Charlie Allen with Nicola Bryan as their supportive mother.

Theatre Review Finally there is a chance to see the Addams Family Musical at the Regent Theatre – a show which was postponed from last year. The opening night audience gave this fabulous show a standing ovation on Tuesday (March 29), and rightly so.

A YOUNG dancer from Cheadle is to perform with the English Youth Ballet. Emily Laws, aged 10, is a student at Miss Kym's School of Dance in Uttoxeter and was chosen to join the professional company for three performances in March. Emily was one of 150 young dancers from across the Midlands to audition for a place in the production of Giselle which will be staged at the Regent Theatre in Stoke-on-Trent.
