An East Staffordshire mum has started a petition calling for trained carers to be placed on school transport for special educational needs students. Roxy Long, who lives in Uttoxeter with her seven-year-old son Freddie, has started the petition, set to be submitted to Staffordshire County Council, following concerns over treatment of her son while he was in a taxi being transported to Fountains School in Burton-upon-Trent.

A council has decided not to implement a 20 mph speed limit in a Moorlands town – despite a petition of more than 6,500 signatures calling for such road safety measures. Leek resident Roger Warrillow has spent months in collating the 6,700 signatures on his petition calling for the speed limit to be changed in the town’s centre.

A council has made a u-turn on proposed car parking changes for a Moorlands town. Staffordshire Moorlands District Council had, as part of its latest Car Parking Strategy, set to increase the car parking hours on its car parks in Leek.

More than 2,200 people have signed a petition against car parking changes set for a Moorlands town. The changes for the Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) run car parks in Leek include increasing car parking fees, as well as increasing the charging times from between 9.30am-3.30pm, to 8am until 6pm instead.

Another set of signatures on a petition calling for a speed reduction in a Moorlands town centre is being presented to Staffordshire County Council this week. Leek resident and local businessman Roger Warrillow began a petition early last year, asking for the county Highways Department to consider introducing a “20 mph speed limit in Leek town centre.”

Jeff Wood at Hales Hall Caravan & Camping Park in Cheadle has been served with a planning enforcement notice with regards to re-roofing of the Coach House at the property.

A Moorlands mum has set up a petition to campaign for free bus passes for high school children who are having to walk a “dangerous” route in order to get to lessons. Laura Bailey, from Tean, has set up the campaign after Staffordshire County Council rejected her application for a free bus pass for her 13-year-old daughter because she now lives within a three-mile radius of her school after moving house.

A petition has been started by a Moorlands dog rescuer who feels that a national animal charity could benefit from more volunteers – in particular from local rescue centres. Adam Harvey, who runs Luosko German Shepherd Dog Rescue in Cheadle, has started the petition which is calling for rescue centre volunteers to be able to deputise for RSPCA officers in their absence.

Hundreds of people have signed an online petition which is asking a village high school to let students wear coats in classrooms. The call comes as windows are being left open at Blythe Bridge High School and Sixth Form to provide “increased ventilation” during the current battle with the Covid-19 pandemic.

A pavement petition has been launched by Forsbrook Parish Council. More than 100 people have signed the online petition to Staffordshire County Council asking for an upgrade of pavements in Uttoxeter Road.

A PETITION has been launched to overturn a school rule that forbids girls from wearing trousers. The uniform policy for Painsley Catholic College in Cheadle states that girls must wear a grey skirt with a blouse or shirt and blazer. Trousers are not included in the uniform list for girls and 'modifications' to the uniform are not permitted.

ALMOST 200 people have signed a petition demanding a pedestrian crossing on a busy road in Uttoxeter. We reported in December that Chamberlain Close resident Jeff Bate had started a petition calling for a pedestrian crossing, and traffic calming measures, in Bridge Street because of his concerns about the safety of people crossing Bridge Street due to “the increased level of traffic and poor visibility along the road.” Mr Bate has now gained support from a further 179 residents in his bid to encourage Staffordshire County Council to listen to his concerns.
