Uttoxeter highways improvements to be in place within a year

A SERIES of highways improvements in Uttoxeter are set to be implemented within a year by Staffordshire County Council (SCC).

Bus route diverted due to “inconsiderate” parking

A BUS service which provides many East Staffordshire residents the means of getting to a town centre is diverting its route due to problematic parking. Trent Barton's 'swift service' will not pass through Park Street in Uttoxeter as of Sunday, September 1, with the company saying that parking is making the route impassible for buses. A spokesperson for Trent Barton told the Times and Echo: “Due to ongoing problems getting past parked cars on Park Street in Uttoxeter, our swift service will instead use Ashbourne Road and Cheadle Road from Sunday, September 1 to ensure we can deliver the consistent and punctual timetable that our customers rely upon.

A VISION FOR THE FUTURE

FREE parking bays in the High Street, a weekend bus service for villages and a drastic revamp of Cheadle’s town centre are among suggestions for a ‘vision statement’ as part of a bid for government funding. Cheadle Town Council’s development services committee met on Monday to debate options which would revitalise the heart of the town. Councillors agreed to seek inspiration from the town’s school pupils and sixth form students, as well as attempt to kick-start a more vibrant night-time economy.

The authority has now confirmed that those proposals have now been passed, and that there will be a “rolling programme” to instigate the schemes up to 2022.

COMMUNITY leaders have vowed to fight against proposals to introduce on-street parking in Cheadle town centre. Plans for ‘pay to park’ on streets

A LOCAL authority is considering possible on street parking charges in both Uttoxeter and Cheadle. The proposals are part of the Staffordshire County Council's On-Street Parking Strategy and Forward Programme of Pay & Display Parking. In a report to the Prosperous Staffordshire Select Committee, it was proposed that a rolling programme of on-street charging reviews on a number of streets across Staffordshire takes place over the next few years.

Parking review on agenda

A 'FUNDAMENTAL review' of town centre parking is needed in Cheadle, according to the town's council. At a meeting of Cheadle Town Council on Monday, members agreed to form a committee aimed at reducing parking charges in the town and resolving issues created by on-street parking in residential areas. The move follows an appeal from residents in the Glebe Road area, who turned out in force to ask for help in dealing with hazards caused by inconsiderate parking and speed.
