TWO level crossings in the Moorlands and East Staffordshire area are due to be shut for a number of days while improvement works are carried out at each of the sites. The works being carried out by Network Rail includes installing new, modern level crossing barriers which “will create a more resilient railway, help to reduce delays to services and mean that the level crossings remain fit for purpose.” Caverswall level crossing on Caverswall Lane, between Blythe Bridge and Caverswall, is set to be closed from tomorrow (Thursday, February 27) through until Monday, March 2; while the Hockley level crossing in Uttoxeter, will be closed between Wednesday, March 4 and Monday, March 9.

A FAULT with a level crossing in the Moorlands caused a standstill in town traffic when it's barriers remained down for nearly two hours, provoking a back-up of vehicles along the road. On Friday, police were called to divert traffic away from Uttoxeter Road in Blythe Bridge with the barriers blocking any way through from either direction. A spokesperson for the Staffordshire Police told the Times and Echo: “We were called at around 4pm on Friday August 2, to reports that barriers had broken and officers were there directing traffic. “British Transport Police were also asked to attend along with Network Rail.”
