A NEW councillor has been welcomed onto a parish council in the Moorlands this week. Peter McCready becomes the latest member to join the Forsbrook Parish Council after all councillors voted in favour of accepting him into the position on Monday (December 18) night. “I'm very pleased and quite excited about the opportunity to try to support and develop the parish,” Councillor McCready told the Times and Echo.

WEST Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) has confirmed that a community response post in a Moorlands town is to close next year, citing financial viability as the reason. The trust stated that Cheadle's community response post, which is situated in Ashbourne Road, will shut by the end of March 2020 but it will turn the rapid response vehicle that is stationed in the town currently into a “double crewed ambulance.” Further to this, it said there are no plans to change the ambulance provision in Cheadle and the surrounding area.

A DAIRY processing company in the Moorlands is encouraging residents to opt for glass bottles instead of plastic when purchasing their milk. Wheat Brothers of Cheadle deliver to around 2,500 people in the Moorlands and Potteries area, with around 70 per cent of customers opting to receive their milk in a glass bottle rather than a plastic one. Company owner Michael Wheat wants to encourage more people to ditch the plastic and use glass instead.

A PRIMARY school in the Moorlands is set to be awarded with a prestigious award. Cheadle Primary School will soon be presented with the Silver 'Rights Respecting School Award' by Unicef UK. Unicef is the world's leading organisation working for children and their rights, and the organisation's Rights Respecting Schools Award is granted to schools which show commitment to promoting and realising children's rights and encouraging adults, children and young people to respect the rights of others in school.

A FRESH bus service which is set to run from the Moorlands to the Potteries will commence at the end of the month. D&G Buses have revealed they will be providing a new 32 and '32X' bus service that will run from Tean, through Cheadle and up to Hanley from Monday, September 30. The Times and Echo reported last week that First Bus was rebranding it's own 32 route as 'Kingfisher', reducing services to one stop every hour.

POLICE have been handing out gardening tips to a Moorlands resident after they discovered a cannabis plant. The plant, which is classed as illegal to grow in this country, was found in a garden at a property near to Cheadle town centre earlier this month. A representative for Staffordshire Police had initially posted about the find on their Twitter page. They said: “Local officers in Cheadle have had to give out some gardening tips this afternoon.

A GROUP of volunteers who meet monthly to clean the streets of their town celebrated their one-year anniversary on Monday. The Cheadle Moorlands Litter Pickers have been keeping the streets of their town clean for the last 12 months after members were “fed up of seeing a mess on the streets.” Started by Nicola Cooper with mum Christine Broad, the group meets on the first Sunday of every month to collect litter that has been discarded in public spaces such as the high street and town centre.

A YEARLY event which celebrates the assets of a community in the Moorlands was hosted on Sunday. Despite the threat of adverse conditions, the weather proved good for the Party in the Park that was held over the weekend on Tean Road recreation ground in Cheadle with many residents enjoying a day of entertainment with neighbours and friends. Live music, competitions and craft stalls created a welcoming atmosphere for those who attended.

THE reduction of affordable housing on a proposed building development in the Moorlands has been approved by community leaders. Building plans, which had previously been approved by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC), for land south of Thorley Drive in Cheadle came under fire from objectors when developers Keepmoat Homes proposed to amend a Section 106 policy that had previously been agreed. A 'Section 106 agreement' is “a mechanism which makes a development proposal acceptable in planning terms, that would not otherwise be acceptable.

THE HEAD chef of an Indian restaurant in the Moorlands has received an accolade for his work in showcasing “the Best of British Curry” in Asia. Muhammad Ali from the Roshni Restaurant on Cheadle Road in Forsbrook was part of a “super curry chef team” which travelled to Kolkata, India, earlier this month as part of the Taste of Britain Curry Festival; an event that offered the best that the Great British curry scene has to offer. The day was organised by UK magazine 'Curry Life' at the five-star RaajKutir Hotel with the much acclaimed Cambridge-born “Michelin Laureate chef” Mark Poynton also showcasing his food at the festival.

A NEW bus service is set to be available for residents in the Moorlands after several parish councils collaborated to provide more public transport for its constituencies. There is set to be a new bus service three days a week through Draycott-in-the-Moors, Fulford and Forsbrook after the areas' respective parish councils agreed to come together to provide a regular means to get to larger towns for “isolated residents”. It was revealed at Monday's Forsbrook Parish Council meeting that, although contracts are yet to be signed, a new bus service is set to be offered to residents.

AN ANNUAL festival in the Moorlands has taken place with around 5,000 people enjoying a packed weekend of summer fun. Throughout the three day extravaganza, Cheadle Carnival showcased what the many organisations and activities within the area has to offer. Friday marked the start of the carnival, kicking off with an evening of live music as Round In Circles along with Guns 'N' Roses tribute act 'Guns or Roses' took to the stage.
