A community leader has encouraged businesses and social groups to help promote International Men’s Day in the future so more men can take that vital step of speaking out when under mental health stress. Cheadle Town Councillor Jamie Evans underlined the importance of doing so having been underwhelmed by the level of attention the occasion was given this year on November 19.

A ‘TOOLBOX’ of support for people struggling with their wellbeing has been adapted to provide online support during the Covid-19 crisis. South Staffordshire Network for Mental Health had been providing twice-monthly session offering face-to-face conversations until the UK went into lockdown in March.

A COMMUNITY leader is hoping to 'champion' mental health within her community after raising awareness of the 'hidden' illness to fellow councillors. Cheadle Town councillor Elizabeth Whitehouse invited Stoke-on-Trent city councillor Lilian Dodd to a recent meeting of Cheadle Town Council where cllr Dodd spoke of her role in taking up the 'Mental Health Challenge' at the city council. In her presentation she said: “I have been a Mental Health Champion for the city since 2018.

A 'CHAOTIC' collapse took Uttoxeter MP, Andrew Griffiths from his 'dream job' as a government minister to the verge of suicide. The MP, who spent a month in a psychiatric hospital after a sex-text scandal hit headlines across the country, said abuse in his childhood and fear of being an older parent had led to a decades-long mental health battle. In an explanation to constituents, Andrew outlined how treatment for mental health problems allowed him to confront the pain of his past and hoped constituents would allow him to “rebuild my life and return to the job I love.”
