Car parking fees on the increase

Car parking fees are on the increase in the Moorlands. The Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) is exercising their powers under Section 35C Road Traffic Regulation 1984 and Regulation 25 of the Local Authorites’ Traffic Order (Procedure) (England and Wales) to vary the Off-Street Parking Places Order 2018 and increase the charges of parking in all three of its towns, including Cheadle and Leek.

Cheadle Town Council has provided reasons why there have been several changes to its budget for the next financial year. There were a number of increases within certain areas of the budget. One of these was ‘Staff and Council Training’ which rose 500 per cent from last year to £1,500 from £250.

Council agree tax increase

Cheadle Town Council has finalised its precept rate for the 2022/23 financial year ahead of it being submitted to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) where council tax will be determined. Pre-Christmas, the town council initially aimed to raise the precept by 4.5 per cent in line with what inflation was forecasted to be ahead of April.

Parking charges on the increase

A TOWN council is set to hold a special meeting focusing on proposals to increase parking charges in the town. Staffordshire Moorlands District Council is due this month to set it’s budget for 2020/21 and among the proposals for expenditure and income during the next financial year, the council is looking to increase parking charges at its car parks including those in Cheadle, Leek, and Biddulph. In Cheadle, the proposals are for charges to be put up 20p. These are for parking in both Tape Street and Well Street car parks where the price to park for up to an hour will be rising from 90p to £1.10, for up to two hours from £1.40 to £1.60, for up to three hours from £1.80 to £2, and for Well Street where drivers can park for up to 10 hours this fee will go from £2.20 up to £2.40.

Parking charges on the increase

CAR PARKING charges in Uttoxeter are set to increase next year. East Staffordshire Borough Council’s Cabinet has approved a number of recommendations to change car parking in the borough. Visitors to ESBC owned car parks - including those at The Maltings, Trinity Road, and the Leisure Centre, all in Uttoxeter – will see the increase come into force as of April 2020.
