A girl in the Staffordshire Moorlands who has ‘defied the odds’ after her mum was told that her daughter may not live long as a baby, has celebrated finishing secondary school with a prom and is due to start sixth form. Hollie Tomkinson, who lives in Cheadle, was born six weeks premature and was diagnosed with a rare form of meningitis at just 11 days old and again at three months old, leaving her with damage to the brain, cerebral palsy and numerous medical issues.

A much-loved community member is continuing to defy doctors diagnosis as she prepares for her 16th birthday. Hollie Tomkinson, who lives in Cheadle with her mum Karen Mace, has battled against the odds all her life, right from the very start.

A mother and daughter who were nominated to receive a special reindeer experience at a Moorlands farm have expressed their joy at meeting the beautiful creatures, saying it “made our Christmas.” Karen Mace and daughter Hollie, who live in Cheadle, were recently announced as the winners of a competition ran by Oakleys Farm who had asked social media users to nominate someone who deserved a festive treat this year.

Hollie Tomkinson was born six weeks early and was diagnosed with a rare form of meningitis at a very young age. However, despite having numerous medical issues, Hollie celebrated her 15th birthday on Wednesday, November 18 with her mum Karen Mace at their home in Cheadle.
