Green-fingered volunteers set their sights on Gold Medal

UTTOXETER is one of just five communities from the Midlands chosen to go forward to this year’s Britain in Bloom competition. The nationwide community gardening contest will see 70 cities, towns and villages across the UK compete across 11 categories. Uttoxeter will represent the Heart of England region in the town category, seeing off entries from towns across Staffordshire, Shropshire, the West Midlands, Hereford, Worcestershire, Warwickshire and Gloucestershire.

Pupils dig deep for village garden

YOUNGSTERS from a village primary school have been getting green-fingered for the community. Pupils from Werrington Primary School have been helping to plant new items in the Sensory Garden at the Werrington Library & Wellbeing Centre. David Shaw, Chairman of the library group said: “Funded by ASDA with the help of the Young Offenders Institute, the garden has now become well established with compost ready for the first sensory planting.
