Permanent traffic lights for Freehay – “at last”

The installation of permanent traffic lights on a busy crossroads in the Moorlands is finally taking place. The highways improvements at Freehay Crossroads, near Cheadle, which are being carried out by Staffordshire County Council, will finally see the installation of permanent four-way traffic lights, carriageway resurfacing and improved signs.

Cost of temporary traffic lights confirmed

More than £38,000 has been spent on temporary traffic lights at a busy road junction in the Moorlands, while work has been carried out on deciphering what permanent road improvements are to be put in place. Temporary traffic lights were put in place at Freehay Crossroads, near Cheadle, in July 2018, after health and safety concerns were raised following a number of road traffic collisions at the junctions.

Traffic lights at a crossroads, which had been knocked into a hedge, caused traffic chaos at the weekend. There are currently temporary traffic lights situated at the Freehay Crossroads near Cheadle, a site which is earmarked for further traffic improvements by Staffordshire County Council.

CALLS FOR CAMERAS AT CROSSROAD LIGHTS

A TOWN council is to write to Staffordshire County Council about the possibility of inserting extra safety measures onto temporary traffic lights at a crossroads in the area. Temporary traffic lights are currently in place at Freehay crossroads due to safety concerns because of frequent vehicle collisions at the junction. Cheadle Town Council are set to contact the county council to reaffirm their position that they are in support of the temporary traffic lights currently in place and also to suggest putting cameras on top of these amid claims from a councillor that motorists are driving through red lights.

New plans in pipeline for Freehay crossroad

SPEED limits could be reduced at a notorious crossroad as part of a bid to improve road safety at the junction. But the plans for Freehay crossroad have been met with scepticism from Cheadle Town Council. Staffordshire County Council is inviting people to have their say on the proposals to reduce speed limits to 30mph on all approaches and potentially change the priority of the traffic.

Traffic lights needed at crossroad

A CALL has been made for traffic lights at a notorious blackspot to become a permanent fixture. Temporary traffic lights were installed at Freehay crossroad last year, after police suggested the measure in the wake of a series of accidents. In July last year, Staffordshire County Council announced it was considering a raft of improvements at the junction in a bid to ease fears over near-misses and crashes at the crossroad.
