A popular event is making a welcome return to a Moorlands town. Doctor Plot’s Lesser Known Leek is a community event held on the first Sunday in July in Leek town centre. It includes a parade, workshops, live story telling and much more. This year’s event on Sunday (July 3) will run from 10.45am until 2.30pm.

There was lots of toe tapping by a Foxlowe Arts Centre audience last week as a celebration of all things jazz took place at the Leek venue. There was a top class line-up for Thursday’s (June 16) jazz night at the community-run arts centre with the Bridge Street Stompers and virtuoso saxophonist Justin Holcroft.

A community-run venue in the Moorlands is set to host an arts festival focusing on all things eco-friendly. HûG 2 – Foxlowe’s Green Arts Festival – is taking place at the Leek venue on Saturday (June 25) between 10am and 4pm.

A community-run arts centre in the Moorlands is hosting a special evening of jazz this month. The Foxlowe Arts Centre in Leek will be the venue for a nostalgia night to mark the 60th anniversary of Leek Jazz Club, which was once an important fixture of the town’s social scene.

A month-long celebration of music, art and culture got under way in the Moorlands last week as the first main event in the 2022 Leek Arts Festival attracted a capacity audience to the town’s Foxlowe Arts Centre. A crowd of more than 150 people flocked to the venue on Wednesday (May 4) for an evening of heart-pumping African beats from the Tri Nations Trio supported by the Leek U3A African drumming group.

A public event is being held in the Moorlands to focus on conserving the history and heritage of a town. Leek resident Cathy Fairley, who has a degree in History, is hosting ‘The Heritage and History of Leek and the Moorlands’ on Wednesday, June 29 at the Foxlowe Arts Centre from 6.30pm until 8.30pm.

The organisers of a fund-raising event in Leek to help the humanitarian efforts in Ukraine have hailed it a massive success following a day of live music. FoxAid took place throughout the day on Sunday (March 20) at the Foxlowe Arts Centre in Leek with a host of local bands volunteering their time to play from 1pm until 10.30pm.

A fortnightly business networking group in the Moorlands has proved a great success following its launch in the summer of 2021. Fox Networking, which meets on alternate Fridays at the Foxlowe Arts Centre in Leek, is run by Mark Brammar who owns his own PR and marketing consultancy.

A series of theatre shows are coming to a community-run arts centre in the Moorlands. From the ‘Truly, Jack the Ripper’ to ‘Owdilocks and the Three Bears’ there is set to be some interesting and enthralling theatre at the Foxlowe Arts Centre in Leek this Winter and Spring.

A group of Leek businesses are once again clubbing together to raise money and gift donations for a local appeal for families struggling financially after another difficult year. Dave Swarbrook and Mark Brammar, from the Creative Hub at the Foxlowe Arts Centre, are coordinating the appeal along with the Fox & Crow Gallery, which is housed in the same building.

A big screen movie has been recently released which has a number of Moorlands connections. Caspian Films’ The Colour Room, which can be viewed on Sky Cinema, follows the journey of a determined, working-class woman, Clarice Cliff, as she breaks the glass ceiling and revolutionises the workplace in the 20th century.
