A Moorlands man has taken on a mammoth climb. And despite Peter Wood, who is originally from Forsbrook, not completing a challenge to climb to the top of Chimborazo in Ecuador, the former Painsley High School student, and his family, are still very proud of the energetic accomplishment.

Most people who live in and around the Moorlands have heard about their internationally acclaimed author, photographer and explorer Levison Wood, having often viewed his numerous exploits on television. What they may not know however, is that his younger brother by two years Peter, aged 37, who now lives in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, is equally just as adventurous.

A fund-raising page set up to raise money for a community member who had his car stolen has surpassed its target goal of £500. Mat Cartwright, landlord of the Butchers Arms in Forsbrook, set up a Just Giving page for Jack Alcock who had his motor taken after a break in at the pub saw his keys from behind the bar stolen by thieves.

The Royal British Legion is celebrating 100 years of providing support to the armed forces community this year. And a father and son duo from the Moorlands were amongst those who were invited to take part in the national celebrations last week, which were held at Westminster Abbey in London.

Communities across the nation have been paying tribute to HRH Prince Philip who passed away last week. The Duke of Edinburgh died at Windsor Castle on Friday, April 9 at the age of 99.

Loneliness is set to be tackled by councils within the Staffordshire Moorlands. The extended isolation which the pandemic has brought about was a talking point at the latest Parishes Together meeting, which involves Checkley, Draycott-in-the-Moors, and Forsbrook parish councils.

An abandoned garden at a village pub is set to become a new residential plot if planning permission is granted. An application has been submitted to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) for permission to build four homes on a former garden adjacent to The Butcher’s Arms at Forsbrook. Objections to the plans have already been made, citing concerns over flooding, traffic and noise.

A TEAM of Indian chefs have been helping to feed NHS staff during the current coronavirus situation. Staff from Roshni Restaurant in Forsbrook visited the Royal Stoke University Hospital last Wednesday (March 25) armed with around 100 curries for NHS workers to enjoy. RESIDENTS in the villages of Forsbrook and Blythe Bridge are continuing to club together to look after the more vulnerable members of their community. Chairman of Forsbrook Parish Council Peter Jones said: “I am heartened by the community response and their call to action. “At this time we need to make sure we are all looking out for our neighbours.”

A VILLAGE in the Moorlands has come together to help the more vulnerable members of their community amid the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. Forsbrook Parish Council has run an appeal parishioners to nominate “one or two people per street” to keep an eye out for the vulnerable people who live close by. The council also said that, via the parish, efforts could be made in regards to any items that need collecting, such as prescriptions and food.
