A YOUTH organisation has had a cash boost thanks to a community fund-raising group. Uttoxeter Army Cadets have recently been presented with £500 by the Royal British Legion. The funds are set to help pay for new equipment at the unit. The Army Cadet Force has been part of the East Staffordshire town for more than 70 years. The national organisation has been around since 1859, and has the motto of 'Inspire to Achieve.'

AN AGRICULTURAL group made up of youngsters from East Staffordshire have finished runners-up in a national singing competition last week. Uttoxeter Young Farmers' Club paired up with members from Eccleshall's cohort to earn second place in the “Choir Competition” at the National Federation of Young Farmers (NFYFC) Competition Day was held at the Stafford County Showground on Saturday, July 6. The group consisted of 15 singers, some of whom had never sang publicly before the regional West Midlands competition in the previous round.

A COUPLE have been jailed after carrying out tax fraud – using their own children's identities. The husband and wife duo, who used to live in East Staffordshire, tried to steal more than £63,000 in a tax fraud, submitting false VAT claims in the names of their own unsuspecting children. Stephen Martin, aged 62, and his wife Karen, aged 61, both now of no fixed address, fraudulently claimed £63,020 between November 2012 and September 2016 for three online businesses, an HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) investigation found.

A NEW town mayor has been elected for an East Staffordshire town. Councillor Sue McGarry was elected as the 2019/20 Mayor of Uttoxeter at the town council's Annual meeting on Tuesday, May 14. Sue has served on the Uttoxeter Town Council for the previous four years, and is also an East Staffordshire Borough Councillor.
