Elvis tribute act raises money while raising roofs

AN ONLINE Elvis tribute show has brought in thousands of pounds for the NHS after social media users donated money while enjoying a resident’s hour-and-20-minute live-stream performance. Mark Clay, from Saverley Green near Fulford, has managed to raise over £5,300 for frontline health workers to help them battle the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. The 50-year-old has done a lot of charity gigs around the area for a number of years and, after talking with wife Claire, decided to still put on a show for a good cause on Saturday despite being in lockdown.

Moorlands business fixes NHS staff’s vehicles for free

A MOORLANDS business has showed its incredible generous spirit by repairing the vehicles of NHS staff free of charge as a thank you for their tireless efforts on the frontline fighting the coronavirus outbreak. Emissions equipment manufacturer Klarius, which is based in Cheadle, has already fixed two NHS nurses' cars and has two more health service staff's vehicles booked in. The latest staff member to have her car mended is Sophy Kuriakose from Newcastle-under-Lyme and she told the Times and Echo she was “extremely grateful” for what Klarius had done.

Cheadle Hospital could be used to help care for coronavirus patients

A TOWN’S community hospital is set to be used to help care for coronavirus patients – if all the beds at a city hospital are filled. The news that beds at both Cheadle and Leek community hospitals in the Moorlands could be re-opened to help with the current battle with Covid-19, comes after many months of campaigning by various groups for the community hospitals to remain open. In a statement made yesterday, Tuesday, April 14, a spokesman for the University Hospital of North Midlands (UHNM), told the Times & Echo: “UHNM is working with health and social care partners to set up an extension of its hospital care provision to manage its Covid-19 response within hospitals across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.

AN ONLINE quiz for children has been launched to help map Uttoxeter’s wildlife. The ‘Covid-19 lock down garden quiz’ was launched last week by Uttoxeter Nature Recovery Network (UNRN). The entrant with the highest score could win a deluxe hedgehog house for their school or care facility.

Teenagers undertake the ‘CovHead-19’ challenge

TWO TEENAGERS from the Moorlands have shaved their heads as part of a challenge that aims to raise money for the NHS as it battles the outbreak of coronavirus. Friends Joe Avery, from Cheadle, and Alfie Walford, from Kingsley, both joined in the 'CovHead-19 Challenge' that invites people to sponsor others to shave their heads to try to “donate some money to a good cause and create some positives out of a bad situation.” Joe explained how he got involved with the initiative, which was set up by NHS Charities Together.

“I was gearing up to have a difficult conversation with my mum”

THE SON of a gentleman from the Moorlands who made a remarkable recovery from coronavirus says the family is “really relieved.” 82-year-old Sid Lovenbury, from Cheadle, was admitted to the Royal Stoke University Hospital last month after showing symptoms of Covid-19 where he tested positive for the virus. Sid had been at nursing home residence Church Terrace, in Cheadle, when staff discovered he had a high fever. They called out for a doctor twice before Sid was sent to hospital.

Singer Joslyn not letting pandemic halt her career

A TEENAGE vocal sensation from the Moorlands is evolving the way she uses her musical talents amid the nationwide coronavirus lockdown. Joslyn Plant, from Cheadle, shot into the headlines last summer after reaching the semi-finals of TV show The Voice Kids UK and has gone from strength to strength in her music career since. Not only does she present a digital radio show on 'Teenbuzz Radio' where she sings and chats for two hours once a month, she is also continuing to work on recording content with Steelworks Studios in Sheffield from home.

Second coronavirus case in town confirmed

A SECOND case of coronavirus has been confirmed in a Moorlands town. Beech Lodge Nursing Home in Cheadle is the latest care home in the town to confirm that a resident has tested positive of COVID-19. A representative at the Rakeway Road venue confirmed to the Times and Echo on Monday (March 30) that on Friday (March 27) a resident was diagnosed with the virus and is now being treated in hospital.
