A new councillor for Cheadle has been voted on to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC). The vote for the vacant Cheadle South East took place at a by-election on Thursday (May 5) – following the sad passing of long-serving town and district councillor Richard Alcock.

A COUNCIL is considering refurbishing seats its members use during meetings – something that could cost thousands of pounds. Cheadle Town councillors discussed whether they should go ahead with the re-upholstering of chairs or not, at a town council meeting at the council chambers, located on Leek Road, on Monday (March 2). The council hires out the historic chambers from the owner of the property, and uses the room for full council and extraordinary meetings.

TRAFFIC controls on a main road adjacent to a major new housing development need a rethink according to Uttoxeter Town Council. Current planning permission granted for 429 homes on land at Hazelwalls includes highways provision for traffic lights in Stafford Road. However, temporary lights in a similar location for works on a separate housing site caused two-mile long queues.

A NEW councillor has been welcomed onto a parish council in the Moorlands this week. Peter McCready becomes the latest member to join the Forsbrook Parish Council after all councillors voted in favour of accepting him into the position on Monday (December 18) night. “I'm very pleased and quite excited about the opportunity to try to support and develop the parish,” Councillor McCready told the Times and Echo.

A UTTOXETER councillor is set to become the leader of a borough council – if the vote goes in his favour at a meeting of the authority this week. The likelihood of councillor Duncan Goodfellow becoming the new leader of East Staffordshire Borough Council comes after he was voted as the new leader of the borough's Conservative Group at the group's recent Annual General Meeting. Mr Goodfellow told the Uttoxeter Echo: “If it manifests that I am voted as leader of ESBC on Friday, then I am looking forward to delivering our manifesto which we have recently been elected upon.
