A council in the Moorlands has found a loophole to be able to still hold some council meetings virtually. As a result of restrictions put in place to tackle the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020 it was not possible for council meetings to take place in person.

A COUNCIL has decided to close all its public toilets in an attempt to quell the spread of coronavirus. Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) said it was taking heed of Government advice by implementing the closures. A spokesperson for SMDC said: “In line with the Government’s advice for people to stay at home due to the coronavirus situation, public toilets across the Staffordshire Moorlands district were closed until further notice on Saturday, March 21.”

COMMUNITY leaders have hit out after it has been revealed that an authority has raked in more than £83,000 in ‘over-vends’ over five financial years due to installing car parking machines that do not give out change. Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) runs 31 car parking machines across the area, none of which give change if a driver does not have the exact amount of cash when paying for a ticket. The authority has now released the amount of money it has attained from “over-vends” in the past five financial years.

A NEW campaign has been launched in search of new foster families in Staffordshire. ‘No Myths, No Ifs, No Buts…’ is the latest campaign by Staffordshire County Council to help find foster families for some of the county’s most vulnerable children. The campaign is being focused on helping to bust some of the commonly held myths which often put people off from fostering.

A LOCAL authority has apologised to residents in the Moorlands after public toilets frequently remained closed when they were due to be open. Public toilets that are located on Cheadle Road in Blythe Bridge, which are supposed to be open from 8am to 6pm every day, have been shut for lengthy periods of time, prompting complaints from residents. Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) are responsible for the maintenance of these water closets.

A REGENERATION plan for Cheadle which was set to include elderly care facilities, a strategy for Cheadle Hospital and improvements to the town centre appears to have dwindled to nothing. Cheadle Town Council entered into partnership with Staffordshire County Council (SCC) and Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) four years ago in a bid to provide a comprehensive plan for the town. The 'Cheadle Town Deal' was set to link in with the Cheadle Masterplan and bring together input from all three councils serving the area.

CUTS to Staffordshire County Council's budget could push costs for some services onto Cheadle Town Council, members have warned. Councillors in Cheadle have agreed to ask the leader of Staffordshire County Council (SCC) to outline what services they may be expected to fund in the future. At a meeting of the town council's committees on Monday, October 1, Mayor Ian Plant proposed an invitation to Cllr Philip Atkins OBE.
