A popular heritage railway in the Moorlands is appealing for additional volunteers to help keep the tourist spot going. The call has been made by the team at Churnet Valley Railway, which has stations at Kingsley & Froghall as well as at Cheddleton.

Three projects in the Moorlands have been granted funding by the Government. The Kenelm Youth Trust (which is based at Alton Castle) and Churnet Valley Railway are both set to benefit from the latest round of cash hand-outs from the Culture Recovery Fund.

Community leaders have given the go ahead for the reinstatement of a railway line in the Moorlands. The Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) Planning Committee discussed and decided upon proposals for the: “reinstatement of single line railway track and replacement footpath on former railway line between Cornhill Leek and boundary of existing operational railway land at Leekbrook” at their meeting on Thursday (December 16).

A full planning application has been submitted to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) for the reinstatement of the Leek to Leek Brook Railway line. In a description of the proposal, which has been submitted by Churnet Valley Railway, the plans are for the: “reinstatement of railway track, new platform and replacement footpath on former railway line between Cornhill, Leek and boundary of existing operational railway land at Leekbrook.”

Bosses at a heritage railway are appealing for people not to trespass on their land. The appeal has been made by the managing director of Churnet Valley Railway, Gregory Wilson, following a number of incidents resulting in vandalism at the popular tourist spot.
