A Moorlands resident is appealing for help in identifying stones which her father has unearthed in his garden. The large stones, with unusual markings, including arrows, have been found in a garden in St Edward’s Park area in Cheddleton.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a fatal road traffic collision in a Moorlands village. The incident, which happened in Cheddleton on Thursday (March 17), sadly resulted in the death of an elderly pedestrian who had been involved with a collision with a white van.

A community in the Moorlands has pulled together to continue collecting much-needed items for those affected by the situation in war-torn Ukraine. Last week, we reported that a group of mums who live in Leek and Cheddleton, had started a kind-hearted initiative to collect items to be sent out to those still in Ukraine, as well as to those who have fled to neighbouring Poland.

A group of mums in the Moorlands have been overwhelmed by the support they have already received after starting a local campaign to help those in need in and from war-torn Ukraine. More than half a million people have fled the Eastern European country amidst the Russian invasion with civilians among those killed in the bombings and raids.

A Moorlands pub-based choir has raised money to install three life saving pieces of equipment in their community. The automated external defibrillators (AEDs) have been installed at The Red Lion and Leek Rugby Club, both in Cheddleton, and one at Leekbrook News.

More than 20 objections from residents have been submitted against a company’s plan to build a new factory on 2.9 hectares of green belt land in Cheddleton. Advanced Proteins, which acquired John Pointon’s & Sons’ animal by-products and proteins business last year, hopes to construct and operate a food processing facility/edible bone processing factory on land adjacent to its existing facility located on Bones Lane, Cheddleton.

A man who robbed and racially abused a taxi driver has been jailed. Samuel Thomas Egerton, aged 23 of Grange Road in Cheddleton, was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment on Thursday (May 27) at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court after pleading guilty to robbery and religiously aggravated fear or provocation of violence.

Youngsters at a village school have been going yellow all in aid of charity. Both pupils and staff at St Edward's Academy in Cheddleton attended school wearing yellow for the day, as part of their fundraising activities for the charity Young Minds.

Youngsters at a Moorlands village school who have headed back to school for the first time since the beginning of lockdown have had a slight change of uniform. Brightly coloured rainbow ties have been handed to all the pupils who have returned to St Edwards Academy in Cheddleton.

A PROPOSAL for a large residential development on land south of a Moorlands village has been recommended for refusal by planning chiefs. The application to build a proposed total of 85 residential units on a 3.15 hectare-site located between Folly Lane and Cheadle Road in Cheddleton is set to be debated and decided upon at the Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) planning committee meeting tomorrow (Thursday, January 16). Previous plans to build on the same site were thrown out in October 2018 after the SMDC refused the application on the grounds of: “This is a greenfield site situated within the Green Belt.
