A TRIBUTE has been paid to a former Moorlands vicar who has passed away at the age of 95. Reverend Richard Keith Boughey, formerly of Checkley, passed away at Richmond Village in Nantwich, on June 4, aged 95 years.

A number of commemorative trees have been planted within a Moorlands parish. Members of Checkley Parish Council have been out with their spades planting trees in the villages of Upper Tean, Lower Tean, Checkley, Hollington and Fole.

Loneliness is set to be tackled by councils within the Staffordshire Moorlands. The extended isolation which the pandemic has brought about was a talking point at the latest Parishes Together meeting, which involves Checkley, Draycott-in-the-Moors, and Forsbrook parish councils.

Residents in parts of the Staffordshire Moorlands are being urged to book a test for Covid-19. The areas of Cheadle, Checkley, Upper Tean, Cellarhead, Werrington, Bagnall, Brown Edge, and Endon, have been identified as Covid-19 hotspots, places where there is a high level of community transmission.

A PARISH council in the Moorlands has called on a local authority to act as overgrown hedges on a footpath on a busy road is making the walkway unpassable. Checkley Parish Council is urging it's residents to contact Staffordshire County Council about the “disgraceful state of the footpath from Tean all the way down to Fole.” A spokesperson for Checkley Parish Council said: “The verges are taking over the paths and the hedges are causing people to walk on a busy road.
