New lease of life inspires charity song for musician

A moorlands man whose lung function had at one point dropped to 29 per cent, has recorded a song about how he feels, having been given compassionate access to a life changing new cystic fibrosis (CF) drug. The song by Cheadle man Marc Cotterill called ‘Thousand Years’ has created a huge buzz online and particularly within the UK cystic fibrosis community, who have just received news that the NHS are to fund Kaftrio - a ground breaking, life-saving drug - following news of a deal with Vertex Pharmaceuticals announced on June 30.

“Thank you to our loyal customers over the years”

A charity shop in the Moorlands has closed its doors on a permanent basis to the coronavirus situation. The Age UK charity shop at 59 High Street in Cheadle has closed and a note of thanks to its customers has been placed on the door by staff – who are facing redundancy.

A friends group in a Moorlands town is back in action in keeping their community clean and tidy. The Friends of Cecilly Brook and Hales Hall Pool have accepted an invitation to be part of a project run by Keep Britain Tidy and has started to, once again, make their community look nice.

A campaign to raise funds for ten defibrillators for a Moorlands town has been restarted. Cheadle councillor Elizabeth Whitehouse is working with Stone-based AEDdonate to install ten public access defibrillators across the Moorlands town of Cheadle.

Residential care home for children gets green light

A former guesthouse in Cheadle is to be converted into a residential home for children. Plans for the change of use were debated by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council’s (SMDC) planning applications committee on Thursday (June 25). Halliwell Homes were given the green light to turn Park View Guest House in Mill Road, into a facility for children who have experienced the trauma of abuse and neglect, separation and loss.

Former bus shelter now a place to sit and relax

A former bus shelter in the Moorlands has been revamped and turned into a picturesque place for members of the community to sit and relax. The structure, which stands on the Green, opposite the Huntsman in Cheadle, has been given a facelift thanks to landowner Gary Bentley and his father-in-law Malcolm Elvidge, who lives near to the shelter.

“It’s making a mess of the countryside”

Concerns have been raised about fly-tipping in the Moorlands countryside. The piles of rubbish - which include chairs, garden waste, a water butt, and parts of a toilet - have been found in the countryside outside Cheadle near Croxden Quarry.

Shoppers help bring swim school back from the brink

Tips from generous Bargain Booze customers have thrown a lifebelt to a swim school for disabled children. Paddles Swim School, which operates at South Moorlands Leisure Centre, was in danger of closing after it was forced to close during the coronavirus lockdown. But customers of Bargain Booze in Cheadle, which also closed, but launched a delivery service, have raised more than £300, bringing Paddles back from the brink.

“Mindless vandalism” of play equipment

Vandals have been ripping up safety flooring from underneath play equipment in the Moorlands. The damage was caused to the matting which lays underneath the zip wire at Hammersley Hayes in Cheadle.
