A community organisation has been ensuring its members have stayed connected during the current surreal situation of the coronavirus pandemic. EqualBase, which has been running in the Moorlands for three years, is a Community Interest Company which is situated at The Old Library in Leek Road, Cheadle.The service offers fun and meaningful day opportunities and activities to adults with learning disabilities. Staff support the members in working towards their chosen outcomes.

Signage for free parking “is a joke”

Concern has been raised regarding “poor signage” which has been put in place to promote a free car parking scheme. Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) is currently operating a three hours free parking scheme on all district council car parks across the Moorlands including those in Cheadle.

Cash boost for defib campaign

A fundraising campaign to purchase additional life-saving equipment for a Moorlands town has received a cash boost from a local business. Cheadle councillor Elizabeth Whitehouse is working with Stone-based AEDdonate to install ten public access defibrillators across the Moorlands town of Cheadle.

A band of volunteers have been out and about keeping their community clean and tidy – despite the wet weather of late. The Friends of Cecilly Brook and Hales Hall Pool carried out their latest litter pick on Monday (July 27) and filled eight bags with rubbish.

Free parking but at a cost of £46,000

It is set to cost a council an estimated £46,000 to operate a free parking initiative which is aimed at getting footfall back into town centres after the coronavirus lockdown. We reported last week that Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) is to offer visitors to its three town centres – of Cheadle, Leek and Biddulph – three hours parking a day throughout the month of August.

Traffic lights at a crossroads, which had been knocked into a hedge, caused traffic chaos at the weekend. There are currently temporary traffic lights situated at the Freehay Crossroads near Cheadle, a site which is earmarked for further traffic improvements by Staffordshire County Council.

Concerns over houses being built too high

Concerns have been raised that two houses are being built too high on a housing development in Cheadle. The houses are part of a large development on land south of Thorley Drive in Cheadle which had been passed by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC). The housing developer has recently put in an additional planning application for a variation of conditions regarding the two houses in question which are situated on Plots One and Two of the development.

Happy campers with new footpath

Campers who are visiting a site in the Moorlands will not only be happy that they are able to do so once again, but also because there's a new footpath which will save them from “dicing with their lives.” A new footpath has been constructed along the road outside Hales Hall Caravan and Camping Park in Cheadle to make it safer for campers to walk into town.

Concerns over drugs in town

An appeal is being made for any information about drug dealing in a Moorlands town centre to be passed on to the police. The appeal comes from Cheadle town and district councillor Kate Martin who is concerned about an apparent increase in drug dealing in Cheadle town centre.
