Two councils in the Moorlands have lodged their objection to a planning application that is asking Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) for permission to build 228 homes in its vicinity. Bloor Homes is hoping to erect the dwellings on land east of Froghall Road in Cheadle.

Community leaders have been considering the impact of the closure of a Moorlands high street while a Halloween event is held. Cheadle Town Council is set to host a night of spooks and entertainment on October 30 using money received from the government’s ‘Welcome Back Fund’ which aims to bring footfall back into high streets.

A community reassurance project at a Moorlands park has this week turned to supporting pooches and their owners. The Cheadle Town Council funded initiative at Tean Road Recreation Ground in Cheadle has seen lots of community engagements take place at the site by youth worker Nicky Derrett and volunteer Annie Devereux who have been delivering the programme.

Community leaders are getting behind an appeal which has been made by a Moorlands business with regards to a planning enforcement notice they have been given. Jeff Wood at Hales Hall Caravan & Camping Park in Cheadle has been served with a planning enforcement notice with regards to re-roofing of the Coach House at the property.

A community reassurance programme which is proving to be a success at a town’s park is set to continue – at least for another month. The initiative, which is currently being funded and trialed by Cheadle Town Council, has seen lots of community engagement take place on the Tean Road Recreation Ground by youth worker Nicky Derrett and volunteer Annie Devereux who have been delivering the programme for the past eight weeks.

A community event set to take place on a town’s park this month has been postponed. A number of Cheadle Town councillors, with help from members of the community, had been working towards hosting a family fun event at Tean Road Recreation Grounds this coming weekend in conjunction with the last few days of this year’s Cheadle Wakes fun fair.

A youth competition which was set to take place at the weekend in the Moorlands was postponed due to the wet weather at the weekend. The first ever Cheadle Skate Trix Tournament was set to take place at the Tean Road recreation Ground in Cheadle on Saturday (August 21) but the organisers, which included Cheadle Town Council in conjunction with teenager Lewis Hide, decided to cancel the event on safety grounds due to downpours of rain at the weekend.

Youngsters are being invited to get their skates on – or grab their skateboard, scooter or bike – to take part in a competition in the Moorlands this weekend. A ‘Cheadle Parks Trix’ competition will be taking place at the skate park in Tean Road Recreation Ground in Cheadle on Saturday (August 21).

A special event is being staged in a Moorlands town to “welcome back” shoppers to the high street after the numerous lockdowns the nation has had over the past 17 months. The community event is taking place this Saturday (August 14) in Cheadle town centre – including in the main Tape Street Car Park where there will be fun fair rides supplied by Warwick FunFairs; and there will also be live music and street venders (food and drink) in Greyhound Walk and the Market Square.

A council has stated that they remain positive about a new community reassurance programme at a town’s rec – despite there being a series of vandalism incidents recently. According to Cheadle Town Council, which looks after the Tean Road Recreation Ground site, the incidents happened on Wednesday (July 28) and also on Friday (July 30); and they involved a group of teenagers “kicking in” the door of the grounds’ bowling pavilion.
