Cheadle Town Council has taken steps to “further strengthen community values” for those using its Tean Road site over the forthcoming school summer holidays. Councillors agreed to trial a Community Reassurance Programme which is aimed at encouraging and supporting users of the recreation ground and its facilities.

A total of £400,000 is set to be spent on revamping a recreation grounds in a Moorlands town. The funds for Churchill Road Recreational Grounds in Cheadle have mainly come from monies which have been paid by developers of houses in the town – called Section 106 funds.

“Unfair” concerns raised over decision to cancel fair

A fun fair operator is seeking legal advice after having a two week visit to a Moorlands town cancelled. The decision to cancel Cheadle Wakes, which had set to start on Friday (June 4) evening in Tean Road Recreation Grounds, came after an out-break of Covid-19 in the neighbouring Moorlands town of Leek. Cheadle Town Council, which has remit over the recreational grounds, issued a statement on Friday at 4.50pm about the decision to cancel the fair, which had already arrived and been set up at the site.

Community leaders were given just five days to come up with proposals on how to spend Government cash to “support a safe return to the high street.” A letter regarding the Government’s ‘Welcome Back’ fund was sent by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) to the Cheadle Town Mayor and fellow members of the Cheadle town Council on Thursday (May 20).

Calls for free parking to be extended

Parents, community leaders and three schools in a Moorlands town are calling for free parking to be extended to help ease congestion outside schools. The motion for the free parking at Tape Street Car Park in Cheadle to be extended by half an hour was brought to Cheadle Town Council by councillors Phil Routledge and Gary Bentley.
