More than 2,500 plants have been planted in a Moorlands town as part of a community gardening initiative. Members of Cheadle in Bloom were out in force on Sunday (May 29) carrying out their Summer planting programme.

A member of a community project group has expressed his disappointment in learning that one of their planters has been stolen. Cheadle In Bloom’s gardening furniture on Carlos Close was discovered taken on Tuesday morning (March 1), with soil from the pot discarded next to the remaining three.

A councillor is appalled after a number of community planters were vandalised in a Moorlands town centre this week. The incident in Cheadle happened overnight on Monday (November 1) and involved a number of planters in Greyhound Walk, and also in High Street.

A town council has agreed to a number of grants which are to be made to community groups next year. Before their main virtual meeting on Monday (December 7), Cheadle Town Council held a meeting (again online) to discuss and agree upon a number of grants the council will pay out during the financial year of 2021/22.

A large town centre planter, which is used to help brighten up a Moorlands town with flowers, has been stolen. And the culprit(s) who took the barrel style planter from Town End in Cheadle not only stole the continuity-owned plastic tub but also emptied out all the soil onto the the area where it had stood. The planter had been purchased by volunteer group Cheadle in Bloom some years ago, along with many others which are situated across the town centre and are planted out each year to bring floral joy to the Moorlands town.

A town's annual summer floral display is set to carry on thanks to a gardening business in the Moorlands. Volunteers of Cheadle In Bloom normally carry out the work needed to create the town's colourful floral display during the summer months, but this year, due to the current coronavirus situation, they have been unable to. However, a gardening business in the local area has come to the rescue to ensure the town is, once again, decorated in glorious flora.

A NATIONAL reading scheme has proved popular with children in a Moorlands town, with hundreds joining in the fun. The Summer Reading Challenge, organised by the Reading Agency, is an annual countrywide project which invites school children to read a number of books based on a certain topic during the summer holidays. For 2019, a theme of 'Space Chase' has been chosen where youngsters are encouraged to read more on fictional life beyond the earth.
